Matt's Story

Matt Thomas

Matt is the Chair of Trustees and a co-founder of Music Support, with over 30 years of experience in the music industry. After two decades working in record labels and artist management, he moved into people-centred support work, focusing on addiction, recovery, mental health, and relational dynamics. For the past ten years, he has worked as a practitioner, consultant, and conflict resolution specialist.

As someone in recovery from addiction and mental health challenges that took him to the edge while working in the industry, Matt’s personal journey is central to his work. It was this experience, and his passion for creating a space where anyone in the industry can access the help and support they need, that led him to co-found Music Support. He has served as Chair since its inception.

An EMCC-accredited Psychosynthesis coach, certified Addiction Professional, and trained mediator, Matt specialises in addiction, recovery, crisis management, and group dynamics, particularly in high-pressure and creative environments. He is the creator of the Four Levels of Conflict Chaos programme and has developed a specialist approach to resolving complex relational dynamics within the creative industries.

Matt also served as a communications consultant for Forward Trust, contributing to their Taking Action on Addiction campaign, and has advised on addiction-related content for television and radio, including The Archers, Emmerdale, Casualty, and Will Young: Losing My Twin Rupert.

He is co-founder of Attune, a consultancy delivering workshops, direct support, and interventions across music, sport, and entertainment, and co-hosts the podcast Empathy for the Devil, which explores mental health and recovery in the lives of iconic artists.
